Who I Am
I’m Nompilo Eugenia Mchunu, an IT graduate with a spark for solving problems through technology. From a young age, I was fascinated by how systems work—whether it was tinkering with gadgets or dreaming up ways to make life easier for others. That curiosity led me to Tshwane University of Technology, where I earned my National Diploma in Software Development, diving deep into coding, database design, and system analysis.

Milestone Projects
Sign Language Translation System
This project is close to my heart. Using JavaScript, Ionic, and MySQL, I built a system that translates sign language into Pedi, English, and Zulu. It’s not just code—it’s a bridge to connect communities and make communication accessible for all.
Open Lab Management System
Born out of a need to streamline university lab bookings, this database-driven system optimizes student access to resources. It’s a practical solution that makes academic life smoother and more efficient.
Software Development Internship at ICEP
During my internship, I dove into building user interfaces and optimizing databases with React.js, Node.js, and JavaScript. Working in a collaborative team, I learned the power of integrating APIs to create seamless, user-focused solutions.
3G Administrator at African Bank
As a 3G Administrator, I managed mobile data operations and tackled issues head-on, improving processes by 15% through clear, streamlined guidelines. It taught me how tech can drive real-world efficiency.
Beyond Technology
Tech is my canvas, but people are my inspiration. As a Deputy Presiding Officer for the IEC, I led with precision, ensuring a seamless voting process for over 700 voters. That role honed my leadership and communication skills, showing me how to connect technical expertise with human impact. I love collaborating, simplifying complex ideas, and empowering others through training.
My Skills
I bring a versatile toolkit to the table: C++, Python, JavaScript, React.js, Node.js, MySQL, Git, and AWS. I hold Google and Cisco certifications in cybersecurity, equipping me to secure digital solutions effectively. I’m advancing my expertise in AI and machine learning, leveraging tools like Jupyter Notebooks and prompt engineering, with hands-on experience integrating APIs.
Why I Do This
Resilience is my superpower. Overcoming obstacles to earn my diploma taught me to push forward, no matter the challenge. I’m driven to innovate in AI, create inclusive tech like my Sign Language Translation System, and empower communities and businesses. Outside of coding, I’m always learning new skills, advocating for accessibility, and drawing inspiration from the world of innovation.
